005: The Shadow Songs
Today I announce the deluxe edition of my album, going to an LSDXOXO DJ set in 2017 and shadows...
There is a stone, I look at it and say, ‘there is the stone’ complete and firm. There is a shadow on that stone, and it’s casted over by the sun. It’s over the day.

At some point, while making the album I fell down a well of ghosts and shadows. Whatever abstract ideas I dwelled on were soothed by this image. ‘All my friends are ghosts’ … in solitude that became a blissful and harrowing idea. The faces and names would show up in my mouth and body in unpredictable ways.
I went down a corridor of these thoughts and began writing some music that helped me translate that.
And then the album was made and the ghosts remained backstage.
I began discussing with my label an idea of a deluxe for ‘Later that day…’ and started considering the songs as an epilogue, an addendum for the album. There were so many other songs written that will likely rest in the shadow of my hard drive but these ones I thought should have their time.
So today, I’ve announced the release of a deluxe album out on February 21st. Four additional songs and one of them being a remix by LSDXOXO.
I met LSD during a session together in Los Angeles when we began making some music together. But actually, the first time I saw LSDXOXO was the summer of 2017 in Toronto. I had fallen in love with club music and remember going to see him DJ a few blocks from my house. It was a ravenous set. It’s such a pleasure to have him reinterpret ‘Grey Gardens’, expressing his own sentiment with it.

I write this to you from my home in Los Angeles, sending much love from here. There’s been a lot of amazing volunteer initiatives local to the city that have been so beautiful to see occur in the wake of these fires. I finished ‘The Brothers Karamazov’ just as the fires began and really stayed with this line "It's all so strange, Karamazov, such sorrow and then pancakes after it, it all seems so unnatural in our religion."
